New Digipak ideas

We have decided to make the front cover of the Digipak  to have a picture of three of our characters cut up, mix and match and create different combinations of people. We are doing this to show that we rely on each other and when we are together we are greater than our various parts.

For example what "blink 182" do in their music video "Always".

Another example is the way that these album covers are layered together.

Band poster research

We also need to create a poster for our band and we had the idea of using all of our characters and putting them together like a "charlies angles" pose but with our characters.

Here are also a few examples of posters that we could incorparate into our ideas for the poster.

Lead singer placement

We have put the main singer in the middle on drums when filming the band shot purposefully as we thought we would break away from all music videos were the main singer is the most important and has to be at the front, we were trying to portray the message that all members of the band are important as the band can only function if everyone takes part.

These are a few example that we are trying to break away from.

Impact editing

I have tried to edit our music video to the song so that when the tune changes so doing the cutaway or band shot for example, i did it like this so that it would not only be visual stimulation for the audience but also will help with the impact that the song will have. An example of editing like this is the intro to the series "CSI crime scene investigation" as they use the song by "who" and edit the cutaways to the song for a stronger impact.

Adittional fan insert

As a group we had the idea to put an additional items into the Digipak so the audience can enjoy the extra content. We thought that we could put all of idea into the Digipak because we now we have more areas to cover. For example we were thinking about either putting in a booklet with the song lyrics in and with a band biography.

Here are examples of the type of booklet we were thinking of.
We are also thinking about putting in Polaroid pictures in for additional items as well as a monster book that the audience can flick through the pages mixing and matching there own monsters.

We could also have five playing cards with our characters on them for instance face cards.

Ideas for Digipak cover

The ideas that we were thinking about as a group were to either put a character on each side of the Digipak cover or two put something like the the "Beatles" version of abbey road front cover and try do our own interpretation of that but with all five characters photo shopped in.

Editing

We have got a first draft of our video but it still needs tweaking. We are still editing it and possible we might be doing a small amount of filming to do this weekend but at the moment we have all the main parts done and all we really need is one or two more band shots and maybe a few more cutaways.

The main filming that we have done has consisted of the Main character, the prostitute, the thug, the preist and the news reporter. Below are the still shots from the music video so far.

Filming tonight

We are hoping to do some filming after school in tealby. If the light and the weather hold up we should be able to finish off the shots that we need to do. We are also going to do the band shots tonight but we were also thinking that we could do them in the studio at school, we are going to do both just encase.

Filming last weekend

We filmed last weekend and the shots we got were the Thug shots and the indoor shots. We were going to also do the priest shot but because of the weather conditions that day we were unable to do that shot. We also have been making a "making of" video of that day. Once we have finished all the filming and got all of the shots with the "making of".

News reporter filming

We were deciding what mustache for Henry to wear and we were seeing which would work best and took some test shots prior to the filming.

When we did the filming in front of the green screen we had to make sure that there was no shadows as that would mess the green screen up so it would not look as good as it could be.

Filming over the holidays

We did some filming over the holiday but we still need to do some more so hopefully next week we might be able to do a bit more filming during and the shots i think that we will be doing are the indoor shots and those would be the shots that will edited in at the end of our music video.

Band Shots equipment change

We have changed the equipment that we are going to use for the band shots, such as we are going to use pots and pans as drums as i have mentioned earlier in the blog, maybe a plank for the guitars and possible like plates and cutlery that you can find around the household. A music video that does not use the correct equipment for band intriments is "flight of the concords" and the song "carol brown".

Problems and how to solve them

We have done the practice filming and we have realised our approach was not the right way to go as the actors we used did not know how to play the instruments so we are now going to attempt to do it our selves and Matthew Sharpe and I are going to have different costumes for each instrument so it makes it look like we are different people. We are also thinking about using fake instruments so it would be easyer to do and we would use pots and pans for the drums for example.

Todays filming experience

We filmed the band shots today with not a lot off planning, we thought we had what we needed to film but there was a few things that i missed out that i did not think i needed such as the notes for the instruments as i thought we would be able just to pretend to know what we were doing but it was a lot harder than expected. I also think we are going to have to film again sometime next week and try and get better quality band shots.

Getting the music equipment

I had to go and ask to borrow instruments from our music department that we have in school and I asked to borrow an electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and a drum kit. We have to organize our time wisely as we can only have the drum kit for the first 1 hour on Friday but we can have the rest of the equipment for 2 hours so we have to do all the safe shots first and then second period we can have all the single shots of the instruments playing on their own and edit them in to make it look like they are happening at the same time.

Questionaire

We have made a questionnaire to find out what our target audience and what they expect from a music video of their favorite genre of music.

Here are the results of my questionnaires. 1. Age: 16-1 17-8 18-3 2. Favourite Genre (more than one choice): Rock- 3 Jazz- 0 Alternative Rock- 5 Metal- 0 Pop-2 R&B- 4 Country- 0 Other- 3 Nu-Soul Folk Most things 3. What type of music video?: Funny-8 Sad-1 Exciting-2 Thriller-1 Action-1 Adventure-0 Other-2 Epic Good ones 4. What do you like to see in a music video?: Originality-9 Special Effects-3 Band shots-5 A storyline-4 Extreme angles-0 Band Promo-0 Other -0 5. How is it consumed? Online-4 Radio-5 Music channels-7 iPhone or iPod apps-0 Download-9 CD's-3 Other-1 All 6. Is there any music channels you like to watch? Yes-9 No-3 If yes please state- Viva Kerrang x 3 NME MTV Base Kiss x 2 MTV Hits T4 4music x 2 Skuzz

Thank you for filling out our questionnaire.

From the results we could determine that most people prefere Alternative rock and the second favourite was RnB. In question 3 it also seems that people prefere music videos to be funny rather than any other genre. Question 4 also it seems people like to see originality in their music videos as well as band shots and i also think band shots are expected as it is a convention that nearly every music video follows. In question 5 it seems that most people consume their music by either downloading through the Internet or by watching music channels. I think over all our results would be a lot more accurate if we had more people as well as a varied age range and gender as i think our results were good but we only had 3 males and 7 females so it was not as accurate as it could off been.

The zebra print gun

I have finished painting the gun that we need for our music video and i think we may also now dress the thug up to look like one of the members from the band "Goldie looking chain".

Possible locations for band shots

This is at the front of the school and it may give an old victorian feel to the band shots.
This is near some trees but if we angle the camera right we can make it look like dense woods if we have to and if that contrasts with the other filmining that we are doing well.
The trees here are situated near the front of the school also and its near a main road so the noise may effect our ability to listen to the music over the noise of the instriments as well as the cars.
Here gives a nice garden feel to the band shots and on a sunny day may be worth taking a look at.
This is near a river and this place is tranquil so doing band shots here may stand out and be eye catching.
This is another angle of the picture above.
This place may be a good idea as it is almost an arena with a stage and that will contribute to a reall band feeling.
This is the small tent that is also near the arena area so it might be a bit of an odd angle to film here.
The fence here and the dull grass give an almost industial feel and this would contrast with the band shots and give the audience a feeling of abandonment to the enviroment.

This willow tree i think is good as in the background its a strong image against a band but this may also take the audience attension away from the band and more to the tree itself.

This courtyard may be a good place to film as it looks like a park but we have to consider that its a mess and the instriments may get damamged here.
