Band Shots equipment change

We have changed the equipment that we are going to use for the band shots, such as we are going to use pots and pans as drums as i have mentioned earlier in the blog, maybe a plank for the guitars and possible like plates and cutlery that you can find around the household. A music video that does not use the correct equipment for band intriments is "flight of the concords" and the song "carol brown".

Problems and how to solve them

We have done the practice filming and we have realised our approach was not the right way to go as the actors we used did not know how to play the instruments so we are now going to attempt to do it our selves and Matthew Sharpe and I are going to have different costumes for each instrument so it makes it look like we are different people. We are also thinking about using fake instruments so it would be easyer to do and we would use pots and pans for the drums for example.

Todays filming experience

We filmed the band shots today with not a lot off planning, we thought we had what we needed to film but there was a few things that i missed out that i did not think i needed such as the notes for the instruments as i thought we would be able just to pretend to know what we were doing but it was a lot harder than expected. I also think we are going to have to film again sometime next week and try and get better quality band shots.

Getting the music equipment

I had to go and ask to borrow instruments from our music department that we have in school and I asked to borrow an electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and a drum kit. We have to organize our time wisely as we can only have the drum kit for the first 1 hour on Friday but we can have the rest of the equipment for 2 hours so we have to do all the safe shots first and then second period we can have all the single shots of the instruments playing on their own and edit them in to make it look like they are happening at the same time.

Questionaire

We have made a questionnaire to find out what our target audience and what they expect from a music video of their favorite genre of music.

Here are the results of my questionnaires. 1. Age: 16-1 17-8 18-3 2. Favourite Genre (more than one choice): Rock- 3 Jazz- 0 Alternative Rock- 5 Metal- 0 Pop-2 R&B- 4 Country- 0 Other- 3 Nu-Soul Folk Most things 3. What type of music video?: Funny-8 Sad-1 Exciting-2 Thriller-1 Action-1 Adventure-0 Other-2 Epic Good ones 4. What do you like to see in a music video?: Originality-9 Special Effects-3 Band shots-5 A storyline-4 Extreme angles-0 Band Promo-0 Other -0 5. How is it consumed? Online-4 Radio-5 Music channels-7 iPhone or iPod apps-0 Download-9 CD's-3 Other-1 All 6. Is there any music channels you like to watch? Yes-9 No-3 If yes please state- Viva Kerrang x 3 NME MTV Base Kiss x 2 MTV Hits T4 4music x 2 Skuzz

Thank you for filling out our questionnaire.

From the results we could determine that most people prefere Alternative rock and the second favourite was RnB. In question 3 it also seems that people prefere music videos to be funny rather than any other genre. Question 4 also it seems people like to see originality in their music videos as well as band shots and i also think band shots are expected as it is a convention that nearly every music video follows. In question 5 it seems that most people consume their music by either downloading through the Internet or by watching music channels. I think over all our results would be a lot more accurate if we had more people as well as a varied age range and gender as i think our results were good but we only had 3 males and 7 females so it was not as accurate as it could off been.

The zebra print gun

I have finished painting the gun that we need for our music video and i think we may also now dress the thug up to look like one of the members from the band "Goldie looking chain".

Possible locations for band shots

This is at the front of the school and it may give an old victorian feel to the band shots.
This is near some trees but if we angle the camera right we can make it look like dense woods if we have to and if that contrasts with the other filmining that we are doing well.
The trees here are situated near the front of the school also and its near a main road so the noise may effect our ability to listen to the music over the noise of the instriments as well as the cars.
Here gives a nice garden feel to the band shots and on a sunny day may be worth taking a look at.
This is near a river and this place is tranquil so doing band shots here may stand out and be eye catching.
This is another angle of the picture above.
This place may be a good idea as it is almost an arena with a stage and that will contribute to a reall band feeling.
This is the small tent that is also near the arena area so it might be a bit of an odd angle to film here.
The fence here and the dull grass give an almost industial feel and this would contrast with the band shots and give the audience a feeling of abandonment to the enviroment.

This willow tree i think is good as in the background its a strong image against a band but this may also take the audience attension away from the band and more to the tree itself.

This courtyard may be a good place to film as it looks like a park but we have to consider that its a mess and the instriments may get damamged here.

Props that we may need

At the moment i am trying to get a zebra print pistol that we could use for the thug scene as that would add a bit of craziness to the scene and make it feel a lot less aggressive, a priest suite that i am working on getting and have mentioned earlier on in the blog, we may also need fake money and oi was thinking about getting monopoly money as that would make it feel more surreal, we may also need a charity donation box for the preacher scene.

Bands shots

We need to start filming soon, possibly this week we need to start filming and we may do the filming one person at a time so it would be easier and then if we edit it all together it would look like they are in the same place, or we can purposely edit them so it looks like they are not in the same place to create a sense of everyone being lost.
